2008 Philadelphia Cherry Blossom Tournament: Sunday, March 30, 2008

Where: Bodek Lounge (First Floor), Houston Hall, 3417 Spruce Street, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104.

When: Sunday, March 30, 2008.

Registration: Save $5.00 off the registration fee by registering in advance. Registration the day of the tournament will run from 8:15 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

The more who register in advance, the more likely we will be to begin on time!

Pre-registration form: Available here. No advance payment is required.

Format: 4 Rounds. 7.5 komi. 45 minutes basic time, 5 30-sec periods of overtime. Number and size of divisions will depend on the number of players and their respective ranks. We anticipate an Open Division from 3-dan and stronger, while those 2-dan and below will play either even or low handicap games, depending on the turn-out. All games AGA rated and played using AGA rules.

    • Round 3: 2:00 p.m.

    • Prize Ceremony: 6:30 p.m.

Prizes: Cash awards, Go books, and Go merchandise to the top division winners!

Hotel & Lodging Options: There are two hotels on UPenn's campus, The Inn at Penn (run by Hilton) and Sheraton University City, both of which are within one block from the playing site. Information for either hotel may be found here:

Those who are looking for discount lodging rates are advised to try a service such as Expedia.com or hotelscheap.org.

In general, hotels will be cheaper out by the Philadelphia International Airport and across the Delaware River in New Jersey (Cherry Hill area). Either site is about 20 a minute drive (6-8 miles) from UPenn's campus in West Philadelphia.

Nourishment: The basement level of Houston Hall has a food court that will be open from noon - 8 p.m., serving everything from burgers to burritos, salads to sushi. There is an additional food court available on 34th & Walnut Street, as well as a Wawa on 38th & Spruce Street. Starbucks Coffee can be found on the corner of 34th & and Walnut Street, and there is a Dunkin Donuts is at 35th & Walnut Street.
