History of the Penn Go Society

The Penn Go Society is run by Peter Nassar and Matt Bengtson. Founded in 2003 at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, the Penn Go Society was registered with the American Go Association in the fall of the following year. Since then we have expanded the club to 25-30 AGA members, making us one of the largest Go clubs in the country!

The Penn Go Society is dedicated to the teaching and service of Go. In addition to co-organizing the 2007 U.S. Go Congress, we have also hosted AGA tournaments in conjunction with the Philadelphia Baduk Association and performed city-outreach events, including the 2006, 2007, and 2008 Philadelphia Cherry Blossom Festivals; and the 2006 and 2007 Celebrate Japan! Festivals. In the spring of 2008, we will be performing a number of Go demonstrations at various branches of the Free Public Library of Philadelphia!
